As we finish a week of special meetings at Iglesia Bautista Independiente – the first evangelistic campaign and the inauguration of the church – we can’t help but exclaim, “To God be the glory, great things He hath done!”
This was a thrilling week, seeing God work in the midst of our church. Three people came to know Christ as Savior. Others made decisions to get right with God. Our church people worked hard to invite and bring others to the meetings, counsel, take care of the children, make and serve food, and clean the church the past 5 days. Even those who were saved came back with visitors!
Five other churches from the north side of Buenos Aires came out to help on the four nights of the campaign. Their presence was a blessing and encouragement to us and our people. A different pastor preached each night and each brought a timely message.
Sunday morning, March 21, we officially formed the church. Those who were saved, baptized, and had taken the new members’ class signed the church charter. There are 12 more who are saved and took the class, but still need to be baptized. We will have a baptismal service on Easter Sunday (April 4) and then, they too, will be able to sign the charter.
Our home pastor, Travis Smith, and his wife, Sheilah, originally planned to come down and take part in this week’s activities. Unfortunately, the ticket prices were extremely high and unjustifiable in light of the present economy, so they had to cancel the trip at the last minute. We certainly missed them, but are glad to have a pastor who highly values pleasing the Lord by being a good steward of missions dollars. Instead of them coming here, we got to join our home church family via live broadcast on Sunday night.
Brethren, pray for us, as we begin the process of discipling this new group of believers. On April 25 we hope to begin classes for new members, new believers, and advanced men’s, women’s and teen girl’s discipleship. Also, please pray for God to work in the hearts of the men in our church to be the leaders He would have them to be.
Thank you for your prayers for us and our first church plant during this important phase.
