We are James and Amy Greenwood, church-planting missionaries in Buenos Aires, Argentina. God has called us here to plant independent Baptist churches by evangelizing the lost with the Good News of the Gospel, discipling the saved, and training national pastors and leaders.
James graduated from Bob Jones University in 1998 with a BA in Bible and in 2002 with a MS in counseling. Amy graduated from the same university in 1998 with a BS in Elementary Education. The Lord called us each to missions while attending Bible college. In April 2002 we were appointed with Baptist World Mission. We began deputation in February 2003, after completing an internship at our sending church – Hillsdale Baptist Church in Tampa, Florida. The Lord has blessed us with three lovely children – Jaden, Lauren, and Josiah.
James’ Personal Testimony
I grew up in a Christian home and heard the Gospel as a young boy. However, it wasn’t until age 15, having just returned from the WILDS Christian Camp, that I put my trust in the Lord alone for salvation. One Wednesday night my Pastor decided to show a Christian film at my church on the topic of hell. After the film, I approached my pastor to tell him that I knew I needed to accept the Lord as my personal Savior. We went to his office, and I cried to the Lord in repentance and faith. He miraculously saved me! Since that night, the Lord continues to work in my life to conform me into His image.
Later, while in Bible college, the Lord called me to serve Him on the foreign mission field.
Amy’s Personal Testimony
I did not grow up in a Christian home, but was actually raised Catholic. When I was 11 years old, our neighbors invited us to their church. From there, I went to a Christian camp where I heard the Gospel for the first time. I prayed a prayer, but it was more of an emotional decision. I thought that I was saved, but my life never changed. At age 14, the Lord convicted my heart and showed me that if I was a Christian I certainly was not living like one. I truly asked Jesus to forgive me of my sin and to save me. For the first time, I thirsted for God’s Word and to know Him. My life began to change inside and out. I thank Him for graciously choosing to save me, and I give God all the glory for the work He has done in my heart.
While in Bible college, I decided to major in Elementary Education, hoping to get married and homeschool my kids one day. Well, a mission board was recruiting education majors to take one year after graduation to homeschool missionary kids on the foreign field. I told the Lord I would be willing to pursue that “if nothing better came along.” The Lord convicted me of that attitude and I soon surrendered to serve the Lord on the mission field – with or without a husband. God is faithful; He soon sent along a godly young man who was also called to missions!
